Ask five developers in Kampala what a website costs and you will hear five very different numbers, from a few hundred thousand shillings to several million. Both can be honest. The price depends on what you are actually getting, and most quotes do not spell that out.

Below are the ranges Ugandan web and app companies publish on their own sites for 2025 and 2026, what we charge at AppsCounty, and the extra costs that catch people out after launch.

Price ranges in Uganda: basic website UGX 0.4 to 1.5 million, business website 1.2 to 3.8 million, online shop 2 to 5 million, custom system from about 6 million, basic mobile app 3.8 to 8 million, mid-size app 15 to 50 million, with AppsCounty starting prices marked.
Market ranges come from prices published by Ugandan vendors (sources below). Dots mark AppsCounty's starting prices.

What the market charges

These figures come from the price lists and pricing guides of Ugandan companies, so treat them as what vendors ask, not an independent survey.

  • Basic website (1 to 5 pages): about UGX 400,000 to 1,500,000. The bottom of this range is usually a one-page site from a template; most local packages for a small business site start around UGX 800,000 to 900,000.
  • Business website (10 or more pages, a blog or editing panel, basic SEO): about UGX 1,200,000 to 3,800,000.
  • Online shop: about UGX 2,000,000 to 5,000,000, and more for large catalogues or custom features.
  • Custom system (school, SACCO, booking, stock or HR): from about UGX 6,000,000 to 7,000,000, rising with the number of users, roles and reports.
  • Basic mobile app: about UGX 3,800,000 to 8,000,000.
  • Mid-size app with accounts, payments and both app stores: about UGX 15,000,000 to 50,000,000. Complex apps go well beyond this.

Why two quotes for "a website" can differ by millions

A UGX 500,000 website and a UGX 3,000,000 website are usually not the same product. Before comparing prices, check what each quote includes:

  • Template or custom design. A ready-made theme with your logo swapped in is fast and cheap. A design made for your business costs more.
  • Who writes the content. Many quotes assume you supply all text and photos. Writing and photography are often extra.
  • Can you edit it yourself? A site you can update without calling the developer saves money over time.
  • Speed and mobile. Most visitors in Uganda arrive on phones and mobile data. A heavy site loses them before it loads.
  • SEO setup. Page titles, a sitemap, Google Search Console and a Google Business Profile decide whether anyone finds the site.
  • Payments. Taking MTN MoMo, Airtel Money or cards needs a payment provider account and integration work.
  • Ownership. Make sure the domain is registered in your name and you get the code and logins. Some cheap deals keep these with the developer, which makes leaving expensive.

What we charge at AppsCounty

We price in the middle of the market. We are not the cheapest option; what you pay for is clean code, a fast mobile site, proper security, and a site or app you fully own.

  • Fixing a broken website or app: from UGX 300,000. Bugs, hacked or slow sites, broken forms and payments, and apps built with AI tools that stopped working.
  • Basic business website: from UGX 1,200,000. Up to 5 pages, mobile-friendly, WhatsApp chat button, contact form and basic SEO.
  • Business website: from UGX 2,500,000. Up to 15 pages, a blog or editing panel, Google Business Profile setup and speed optimisation.
  • Online shop: from UGX 4,000,000. Product catalogue and checkout with MTN MoMo, Airtel Money and card payments.
  • Custom web system: from UGX 8,000,000. School, SACCO, booking, stock or reporting systems with user roles and dashboards.
  • Mobile app for Android and iOS: from UGX 8,000,000. One codebase for both platforms, published to Google Play and the App Store.
  • Mid-size app with accounts, payments and an admin panel: UGX 18,000,000 to 40,000,000, depending on features.

These are starting prices. After a short call or a WhatsApp chat about what you need, we send a fixed quote that lists exactly what is included.

Do AI tools make websites cheaper?

Partly. Tools like Cursor, Claude Code and Lovable now write much of the routine code: page layouts, forms and standard features. A developer who uses them well finishes the repetitive parts in hours instead of days, and that should show up as faster delivery and fairer prices.

What AI does not remove is the work that decides whether a site is safe and works for real customers: setting up MTN MoMo, Airtel Money and card payments correctly, protecting customer data, testing on real phones and slow connections, and catching what the AI got wrong. A large part of our work is fixing apps built with AI tools that looked finished but exposed their data or broke at checkout.

We use AI tools every day for the routine parts and spend the time saved on design, security and testing. That is how we deliver faster while staying in the middle of the market on price. Be careful with very cheap quotes for "AI-built" sites that include no testing or support: the savings often come back later as repair bills.

The costs that come after launch

  • Hosting: shared hosting from Ugandan providers is roughly UGX 50,000 to 250,000 a year (listings on WHTop). Shops and systems with many users need more.
  • Domain name: a .com or .co.ug renews every year. A .ug domain is priced in dollars by most registrars and costs noticeably more.
  • App store accounts: Google Play charges a one-time US$25 registration fee and Apple charges US$99 a year for the developer program (Apple Developer Program).
  • Payment charges: payment providers take a fee on each mobile money or card transaction. Check the rates before you set your prices.
  • Maintenance: plan for around 15 to 20% of the build price each year for updates, security fixes and small changes. Apps need updates when Android and iOS change.

How to get a fair quote

  1. Write down what the site or app must do, who uses it and which pages or screens you need. Even a one-page list makes quotes comparable.
  2. Ask two or three developers for an itemised quote that names the pages, features, revisions and timeline.
  3. Ask to see work they have actually built and launched, and open those sites on your phone.
  4. Confirm in writing that the domain, code and accounts will be yours.
  5. Agree on payments in stages, for example a deposit, a payment at design approval and the balance at launch.

Most developers, including us, split payment into stages: a deposit to start, a payment when the design is approved, and the balance at launch.
